Matt's sons, Jimmy (9) and Willie (12), interview him in a series of videos about running for Town Council and community issues.
Over the last decade, Matt has not heard enough candidates mention the issues that he and his wife talk about every night. Other parents, residents and friends share many of the same concerns. Someone with a different perspective needs to stand up and bring these topics to the table.
We need a representative that will listen to you, fight for the needs of Carolina Beach and earn your respect. If you know Matt, you know he is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and work for what he believes in. For someone who truly cares for your community, look no further.
Graduates of UNC Wilmington in 1997, Matt and his wife, Kristen "Doc", moved to Carolina Beach in 2005. They have two boys, Willie (12) and Jimmy (9). The boys were born in the Betty Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital. Both boys went straight from the hospital to the Ocean Blvd beach access before they went to their home located just down the street.
Inspired by his parents, Chuck and Cindy Dunn (also Carolina Beach residents), Matt believes that it is important to give back to the community you love. That is why he has volunteered in our community with organizing youth baseball. As a volunteer, Matt has worked to keep kids and families here on the island by giving them a viable and affordable youth sports experience close to home, something he believes makes our community stronger.
Matt is asking for your vote, not your money. If you want to support his campaign, please spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. He wants to hear what's on your mind, so please speak up if you see him out in the community. He'd be glad to receive an email from you too.
Matt has been part of this community for several years, working tirelessly to make it a better place for kids. He would like to do more to preserve the future of our children and their well-being in Carolina Beach. In order to do that we need to address key issues that will not only benefit children and families, but everyone else who has an interest in where we live, learn, work and play.
Matt is looking forward to discussing his position on common issues we are all facing,
unique issues residents and business owners have as well as issues concerning kids and families.
Some of our issues are a mindset and do not cost millions of dollars.
We can walk and chew gum at the same time!
Unprecedented times continue!
As a community, we can do more to support children and their families.
Growth pushing limits of both.
Fed funds and project not guaranteed. Uncertain future also impacts CB Inlet.
Stormwater and tidal flooding are expected, but can be improved.
A way of beach life for some is changing. Less space and less town revenue.
A special place in town, but it needs work due to storm damage and neglect.
Once beautiful, but twice neglected.
We must balance the needs for Residents, Businesses & Visitors.
If you spend time on the greenway, chances are you will run into a Dunn.
This should never happen in our town. Why does it? We'll discuss it for sure.
Just a bump in the road (lots).
We should open our ears on this one. Let's not assume anything!
We are growing rapidly. Let's be responsible and not rush approvals!
Let's get together on this one and move things forward for everyone.
Let's keep CB kids and families connected through organizing more youth rec activities here at home.
Matt will be listening out for new issues to address as well as adding detailed information on positions of our own.
Your town. Your choice.
